Dr. Murray should retire

Posted by BBolin on 6/10/2008

I have gone to Abrams Royal Animal Clinic over 5 times. The only reason I drove the 15 minutes to go to this clinic is because my husband and his family used to take their pets there when he was a child. My husband said Dr. Murray took care of all of their pets so I decided to go. What a mistake! The first time I went, Dr. Carpenter saw my dog. She did a wonderful job. I went back again later and again, Dr. Carpenter saw my dog. Again, I was very happy with her services. Then the next time I went, Dr. Murray saw my dog. It was a terrible trip for me because at the end of the visit, Dr. Murray actually told me the reason I have my dog is because I don't have kids. He told me I was replacing children with my dog. I was only engaged at this point...Not even married! Who is he to tell me why I don't have children. I thought maybe he was joking. He never smiled but I decided to overlook these comments anyway. Then I went back 5 months later and again out of the blue Dr. Murray just offered his opinions and said the exact same comments to me! I was so angry. When I go to the Vet, I don't want my life to be analyzed. He misdiagnosed my dog on that last visit too. It cost over $150 for that visit and he told me that the reason my dog kept throwing up was because I fed him wrong. My dog self feeds. I put food out and he eats when he wants. I went home and told my husband (who is a physician) about this. He told me that our dog most likely had a virus and it would go away in a couple days. Sure enough, 2 days later, he was back to normal. I have fed my dog the same way for his entire 5 years of life. This shows that there is nothing wrong with the way I feed my dog. In my opinion, Dr. Murray is an old man that should retire. I feel he is burned out and tired of working as a vet. If you want your life choices (such as when to have kids) to be judged and looked down upon then go see Dr. Murray. If you want your dog to actually be taken care of then either go to see Dr. Carpenter or go to another Vet. I told my dog groomer this story and she told me a story about a terrible Vet she visited, she then told me the vet's name... it was Dr. James (Jim) Murray!!! We could not believe we were talking about the same man!
